This is a practical unit covering the principles of producing control and monitoring solutions using a flowchart-based interface (Flowol 4). Pupils will start by producing systems that use simple loops and basic outputs, and then move on to look at systems that have multiple inputs and outputs. They will refine their solutions using subroutines and variables. There are worksheets to accompany each lesson, as well as videos and solutions to all the worksheets and Flowol tasks. The final assessment is by means of an Assessment Portfolio which includes questions on what pupils have learned, space for pupils to provide evidence of their most complex flowchart solution and a self-assessment levelling grid.
What's included in the toolkit?
The currently available units have been written to satisfy the new National Curriculum for Computing, they are designed for teaching at KS3 but individual lessons in some units may also be appropriate for teaching Key Stages 2 or 4, particularly where Year 10 students may not previously have been exposed to certain topics.
PG Online resources are very well planned and easy to use. Inspection copies are also useful as this enables me to make better choices with our limited budgets.
