Summary

In this unit pupils will learn how sound is digitised and stored on computers. They will learn basic sound editing techniques and how to add sound effects and mix tracks. Different job roles involved in sound editing are covered including audio technicians, sound editors and Foley artists. Pupils will undertake a creative project to create a radio advert. This will involve creating a script, recording speech and sourcing sound effects and background music. This is then all edited into one product which is exported into a suitable compressed file format.

The unit is an excellent introduction to the digitisation of sound required in Computer Science GCSE. The unit also provides a solid foundation to the job roles, use of scripts and audio editing required in the Cambridge National in Creative iMedia.
