This specialist unit covers timbers and is suitable for those wishing to study this area in more detail as their chosen material category. 

The sources, origins and properties of timbers are covered in the first lesson along with the processes and environmental considerations involved in the conversion of timber. The selection and reinforcement of materials is covered in the second lesson with an emphasis on stock forms and production in the third. Commercial production techniques such as lamination, veneering and joining are covered in the final lesson, including specialist tools, treatments and finishes.
