Mathematics Mastery

Summary

This final geometry unit of the series explores the relationship between ratios of similar shapes and develops more complex trigonometry techniques.  In the first three lessons, properties of similar shapes are investigated and links between the ratio of lengths, areas and volumes are made and used to solve contextualised problems.  For the second part of the unit, the focus switches to trigonometry, developing on from earlier work in Unit 14.  Lesson 4 introduces students to the Sine Rule and its use applied to problems including those involving bearings.  The Cosine Rule and the rule for the area of a triangle are introduced in the next lesson and in the final lesson, problems and exam-style questions are used to enable students to apply their learning to problem solving and reasoning tasks.

What's included in the toolkit?

What people say...

The resources were very good.

James Knightbridge. Mathematics teacher, Clayesmore School

Open questions feature regularly so that students learn to see the possibilities in a question. This is essential for solving problems and tackling unfamiliar questions.
