#1 January: Get revision timing right

Monday, January 30, 2023

Revision timing. Revision is an essential part of the exam preparation process, but it can be difficult to know how to approach it in the most effective way. Here are some tips on timing revision sessions to make the most of the time available before the big day:

  1. First, consider how much time you have before the exam. If you have a few months, you can afford to spread your revision out over a longer period of time, possibly even starting as soon as you begin the relevant course. If you have less time, you may need to be more focused and efficient in your revision.
  2. Next, think about how often you should revise. Some people find it helpful to revise a little bit every day, while others prefer to do longer study sessions less frequently. Ultimately, the best approach will depend on your personal learning style and how you respond to different revision techniques.
  3. It's also important to consider how long you should revise for at a time. Studies have shown that our brains are most effective at retaining information when we take breaks, so it's generally best to avoid studying for long periods without a break. Instead, try to revise for around 50-60 minutes at a time, with a 10-15 minute break in between.
  4. Finally, be sure to mix up your revision techniques and use a variety of methods to help you retain information. This could include things like practice questions, summarising notes, and teaching the material to someone else.
By considering these factors and finding a revision schedule that works for you, you can make the most of your study time and feel confident and prepared for your exams.

Good luck!
