Summary - New: 3rd Edition

This unit covers essential theory of databases in order to prepare pupils for GCSEs in either Computing or ICT. Supporting the basic theory, this unit has a practical focus, covering the creation and use of a single-table database and/or a simple relational database involving two tables in a one- to-many relationship using MS Access.

The first lesson is designed to engage pupils in the concept of databases using a number of “Unsolved Crimes” and a database of suspects, from which pupils must use queries to find the culprit for each of the cases they have been allocated.

In subsequent lessons pupils will create a flat-file or two-table relational database of their own, using suitable field types and adding in appropriate validations. They will create an input form, queries, a report and a front end menu for their own application. Two populated database have been included for demonstration of these skills by the teacher.

What people say...

You have done a great job!! The resources are great and students find them very easy to understand and follow!

Robinson Zapata. Leader of ICT, Richard Challoner School

The feedback I have had from my staff are all positive. We use your material and adapt each to suit our students. It has certainly made our life easier, especially as there are so many other factors that take up our time. It’s actually the first time I have bought in resources in the last 6 years. What we like is the quality of the resources, the activities are engaging for our students and the assessment material is varied (tests as well as tick sheet) and easy for students to understand.
