Mathematics Mastery

Summary

This geometry unit focuses on the Circle Theorems; their discovery, proof, use and application to solving angle problems in circles.  The first two lessons are used to discover and define six Circle Theorems.  The approach to the teaching is dynamic to support understanding and encourage mastery.  In lesson 3 the Circle Theorems are used to find missing angles in circles and students are encouraged to communicate effectively when giving reasons for their answers.  In the second half of the unit, lessons 4 and 5 focus on developing and understanding the proofs for each of the Circle Theorems.  The unit concludes with students applying their learning to solve more complex geometrical problems on the coordinate axis using a variety of shapes, composite shapes, lines and angles.
