Summary

The second probability unit of the series builds on work from the earlier Unit 7 to develop more complex aspects of probability.  The unit starts by developing the use of the Product Rule for counting and applying systematic listing strategies.  The unit moves on then to explore the difference between dependent and independent events and find the probabilities of these events.  Conditional probability is explored next, and tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and two-way tables are used to find conditional probabilities.  The unit presents a range of contextualised problems for students to solve in the culmination of their work on further probability.  The final lesson of this unit looks at the maths involved in sampling, including considering sources of bias and drawing conclusions about a population from a sample.  The Peterson capture/recapture method to solve problems is discussed and used.

What people say...

A fantastic set of resources to support both teachers and students in the delivery of the new computing curriculum. We would be lost without it.

Catherine Williams. Head of Department, St Bede's Inter-Church School

I have found PG Online resources not only time saving, but also comprehensive – following the specification of the GCSE and A-Level courses that I teach. They are engaging for students and with the added bonus of homework’s and end of unit assessments planned out. The textbooks are also the perfect companion. I cannot recommend PG Online resources enough.
