Summary

New for the 2025 AAQ specification.

These resources cover the HTML and CSS aspects of Learning Aim C1 of the specification and are subdivided into six topics plus an end-of-unit assessment. Each topic contains enough content for one or two lessons. The resources contain numerous examples and practical activities which will teach relevant web development techniques and give a solid foundation for the skills required in the assessment. This pack is divided into two sections, with the first three topics covering HTML and the final three topics covering CSS.

The resources make use of Notepad++ for the creation of HTML and CSS. The knowledge of these languages will be beneficial which ever editor or web design software is chosen to complete the assessment.

The first topic looks at HTML content and how it is created using a text editor. Students will have the opportunity to create HTML including headings, paragraphs, line breaks, tables and lists. The second topic covers the creation of hyperlinks, images, navigation bars and video. This enables students to build engaging and interactive websites, with the worksheet tasks guiding them through building a five-page website. The third topic demonstrates how to build effective and well-designed forms.

Topic four covers some of the basic principles of cascading style sheets. This includes colour, typography and text formatting, links and buttons. Students will learn how to control the design of a web page for individual elements, one web page, or using an external stylesheet. The next topic introduces using CSS with images to alter size, borders and text wrapping, as well as using images for backgrounds and in responsive web pages. The design of tables and forms is also covered in this topic. The final topic considers CSS page layout, including the CSS box model which covers margins, borders and padding. The use of media queries to create a responsive layout and the use of CSS grid layout module are also covered in this topic, enabling students to create designs and layouts which will be accessible on a range of devices.
