Summary

New for the 2025 AAQ specification.

This engaging pack of resources covers the JavaScript required as part of learning aim C1 on the specification. The pack is subdivided into six topics plus an end-of-unit assessment with each lesson having enough content for one or two lessons.

The resource has a heavy emphasis to practical activities which students can undertake along with suitable use of JavaScript libraries. The libraries used are all free and can be used, with acknowledgment, in student’s final projects if they are suitable to meeting the project brief.

Students will need access to a text editor such as Notepad++ for the creation of the necessary HTML and JavaScript.

The first topic acts as an introduction to JavaScript showing some basic concepts such as creating scripts within an HTML page, some simple programming syntax and the ability to include libraries that others have written within their own web pages.

The remaining topics each make use of suitable libraries to show how JavaScript can be used for the functionality given in the specification. In the second lesson students are able to create both image gallery's and image sliders (carousels). Topic 3 covers various ways in which information can be displayed using accordions, tabs and modal boxes. Students also look at how information in a table can be filtered.

Topic 4 covers the use of animation in detail including over effects, transitions and motion. Students will have the opportunity to animate a logo in various different ways including the use of timelines, opacity, rotation, movement and easing.

In topic five students look at how to search a table and also how to create a simply commerce page containing a shopping trolley and search functionality. The final topic considers playing videos using a JavaScript library and compares this with the alternative method of using HTML5. Finally students are shown how to make tiled maps within a web page along with the creation of markers.
