NEW for the 2025 AAQ specification

These resources cover key aspects of web development and are subdivided into five topics followed by an end-of-unit assessment. Each topic contains enough content for one to two lessons, offering a comprehensive foundation for students to cover both C2 and C3 in the specification.

The first topic covers accessibility, introducing important concepts like alternative text, zoom features, and text-to-speech tools. Students will also explore WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards, along with techniques in HTML5 for semantic HTML to ensure websites are accessible to all users. The next topic focuses on SEO and publishing websites, where students will learn the fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and explore how websites are published for both handcrafted sites and those using web design software such as RocketCake and Dreamweaver.

The third topic delves into self-review, teaching students how to assess their work by comparing it to similar websites. Key considerations include the suitability of the website for its target audience and purpose, meeting client requirements, and addressing legal and ethical constraints. Students will also evaluate the consistency and readability of the website to ensure it delivers an effective user experience.

In topic four students explore functionality testing. They have an opportunity to create a test plan to evaluate the functionality of a websites. This includes testing links, user interactivity, and responsiveness across different screen sizes, ensuring the website works as intended on all devices. The final topic covers usability testing, where students will conduct user testing audits to assess the website's accessibility and user experience.

The final assessment gives students the opportunity to test their understanding of the topics before they proceed to the Pearson Set Assignment Brief.
