Summary

NEW for the 2025 AAQ specification.

Take advantage of our early bird offer. Prices will rise on publication.

This comprehensive pack gives students everything they need to master the database implementation section of the specification. Designed as a complete, ready‑to‑teach solution, it contains six fully resourced topics plus a final assessment. Each topic is packed with practical activities, worked examples and sample databases that ensure students gain the confidence and competence required to build fully functioning systems in Microsoft Access.

The pack begins by establishing the essential foundations of relational database construction. Students are guided through building well‑structured tables, applying appropriate data types and validation rules, and forming accurate relationships based on entity‑relationship diagrams. By grounding students in these skills early, the resources ensure that every learner develops a secure understanding of how data is organised and controlled within a relational structure.

As they progress, students move into using Access’s powerful query tools to manipulate, filter and analyse data with precision. Multiple criteria, wildcards, summary functions, calculated fields and action queries are all introduced through clear, accessible examples that mirror the kinds of tasks required in assessment and real‑world data handling. This gives students a strong technical toolkit for solving practical database problems.

In the third topic, students look at how to present information professionally through well‑designed reports. Students learn to apply grouping, headers and footers, conditional formatting and layout techniques to create polished outputs suitable for printing or viewing on screen.

Topics four and five focus on developing a smooth, intuitive user experience. This is an essential part of any successful database system. Students create responsive data entry forms that incorporate sub‑forms, navigation controls, consistent formatting and professional branding elements such as logos and colour. They then extend their systems further by adding navigation menus, home screens and a range of automation features using macros to validate input, run processes and pass values between objects.

The final topic equips learners with the practical skills needed to populate a working database accurately and efficiently. Students import CSV files, transfer data using append and update queries, eliminate duplicates with DISTINCT and ensure referential integrity when building multi‑table datasets. This structured approach ensures they can handle data imports, even in more complex scenarios.

Together, these resources provide complete coverage of all required elements of section C1 of the specification, giving learners a clear pathway to take their ideas from the design stage to a fully implemented database solution. A final assessment is included to help students consolidate their understanding and demonstrate their readiness to progress to the project brief with confidence.
